Posing

3:00pm Thursday 10th April 2014

Sir, The letter published in last week’s Bicester Advertiser by Dr Michael Curry, chairman of North Oxfordshire Conservative Association, posing as an ordinary member of the public, is a disgraceful personal attack on Polly Foster, the Labour candidate for Bicester West Ward.

The quiz went down well too!

SIR, As I sat in the hour-long jams on the A41 caused by Bicester Village traffic, my thoughts drifted to the demise of Great Central Railway, which local politicians campaigned hard to save, claiming its loss would damage rural communities.

12:35pm Sunday 24th November 2013

Questions

11:00am Friday 1st November 2013

SIR, As a weekly user of the Oxford Road sports facilities, I have major concerns that the users’ interests are of secondary concern to the BSA. Your paper urges trust, but BSA resembles a self-perpetuating secret society.

Traffic anger

10:30am Friday 1st November 2013

SIR, Both my daughter and I believe traffic planners have to accept the impact on working people when traffic policies cause delays.

Frontage

10:00am Friday 1st November 2013

Sir, About ten months ago, this paper reported that the retrospective planning permission for the alterations to the frontage of Lloyds the chemist, formerly the White Lion public house, had been refused on the grounds it was not in character with the surrounding Sheep Street conservation area.

Comment: New college welcomed

8:00am Friday 1st November 2013

A BID by Oxford and Cherwell Valley College to provide more educational choice in Bicester can only be welcomed.

Eco view

7:00am Friday 25th October 2013

SIR, I can well understand the concern of your correspondent, Bob Dixon, about the lack of clear plans for the so-called eco-town. The fact is that a masterplan should have been prepared and made public long ago. This should have made clear how the residents of Bicester, Bucknell and other villages are likely to be affected.

Costly call

7:00am Friday 25th October 2013

SIR, Re: Bicester sport. In 1993 Cherwell District Council turned down BSA’s planning application for sport facilities at Chesterton. Now they are asking them to buy and run phase three at Bicester for them. Bit of a nerve really.

Clear picture

7:00am Friday 25th October 2013

SIR, How encouraging it was to read the recent correspondence and comment, featured in the Bicester Advertiser regarding the Bicester Sports Association.

Caring duty

Give money

SIR, Like so many of your readers, I am delighted with the announcement from Cherwell District Council that stage two of the much needed sports village is soon to start. The shortfall in playing pitches in our town has been identified and positive action taken – Cherwell are to be congratulated.

No to home

8:00pm Friday 27th September 2013

Sir, Re: Councillor Stratford’s arrogant response to Mr Moore’s letter, regarding the G4S children’s home at Banbury Road, Bicester.

Long-term

6:00pm Friday 27th September 2013

Sir, Re: We’ll stay in the Garth, Bicester Advertiser, September 19). Will Bicester Town Council still be operating from the Garth 599 years from now, when a successful investment of £839,000 to secure an annual saving of £1,500 will pass the break-even point, after which the profits will start pouring in? I know we have national issues with economic short-termism but is this long-term view beyond reproach? Is it truly sustainable?

Response

6:00pm Thursday 19th September 2013

Sir, In response to the letter from Mr T Moore (Bicester Advertiser, September 5 ).

Limit speeds

5:00pm Thursday 19th September 2013

Sir, With reference to the on-going saga that is the Middleton Stoney road speed limit, can I offer this suggestion? For the past few years I have been walking into town by choice (blood pressure and weight are at their lowest for years) and one of my favourite routes is down Middleton Stoney Road. Some years ago I attended a speed awareness course and I learned a lot about recognising clues for a potential speed limit if there are no signs.

Bye to box

4:10pm Thursday 19th September 2013

Sir, In response to Ruth Martin’s recent letter – as to the whereabouts of the Victorian letterbox in London Road, Bicester – I took this up with Royal Mail a couple of weeks ago. I was informed that the box was damaged by persons unknown to such an extent that they were unable to repair the post-box and that all parts of the box had to be taken away for disposal.

Home plan

10:29am Thursday 12th September 2013

Sir, Following the Cherwell planning committee meeting last Thursday, I would like to express my appreciation to councillor Hurle and his vote against planning permission to change Magnolia House, in Banbury Road, into a G4S administered children's home. The same cannot be said for the other Bicester councillors present.

U-turn?

10:26am Thursday 12th September 2013

Sir, Re: My recent letter in the Bicester Advertiser, “Cash Wasted”, concerning the closure of North Street.

999 Angels

10:22am Thursday 12th September 2013

Sir, I am 88 years of age and suffered major heart surgery followed by angioplasty. This was under the care of the Brompton Hospital Trust at Chelsea.

Sign sighs

5:30pm Friday 16th August 2013

SIR, Graham Hartley’s comments on the Middleton Stoney Road speed limit are just unbelievable. He takes issue. Well, so do I. Obviously, according to his address, Chesterton, when driving into Bicester he sees the 30mph speed sign prior to the Shakespeare Drive roundabout.
