BICESTER must wait to see if they are awarded victory after their Southern Counties North clash at Wallingford was abandoned nine minutes from time due to injury.

The visitors led 26-14 when replacement flanker Joey Sibun collapsed with a neck injury.

Sibun, son of former Bicester player Andy, was taken to hospital but, to the relief of his clubmates, tests revealed no fracture.

Because of the delay, referee Dewald Swart called a halt.

The league will decide later this week if the result stands, or if the match has to be replayed.

At the time of the injury, Bicester’s Alex McDonald and Francois Wiese, and Wallingford’s prop Antony Marris were all serving time in the sin-bin.

The hosts took full advantage of the depleted visitors to score their second try.

Before then, Bicester had been in the ascendancy, and were leading 26-7, thanks to a try in each half, and four penalty goals from Tom Miles.

Half-backs Mike Harris and Dave Hampton and No 8 Adrian Teckoe shone along with full back George Upton.

Hampton crossed to give Bicester an early lead, Miles converting and adding a penalty.

Wallingford replied with a try from scrum half Phil Dawes, which he converted.

Two penalties from Miles stretched Bicester’s lead to 16-7 at half-time, and he added another just after the interval.

Harris then jinked over for a try which Miles converted.

The hosts’ Pete McKinley touched down and Dawes converted before the abandonment.
