Bicester came up agonisingly short in a 29-28 defeat at home to High Wycombe in Southern Counties North on Saturday.
The hosts seemed on their way to victory as they led 18-5 early in the second half.
However, the visitors hit back in the last half-hour to clinch victory.
Matty Duncalf put Bicester in front from James Gros-venor kick ahead to go over for a try, before Andy Cook’s penalty made it 8-0.
Craig Murray touched do-wn for Wycombe, but Cook’s penalty put Bicester 11-5 up.
After the break, Dave Beh-an charged over for 18-5.
Wycombe cut the lead with an Ayrton Hooker try, before they were awarded a penalty try, Matt Wardle converting.
Hooker’s second try then put the visitors 22-18 up.
But a third Cook penalty cut Wycombe’s lead to a point.
Bicester centre John Behan charged over after good work from lock Matt Dye, Cook converting for a 28-22 advantage.
However, a converted try from Wardle ended Bicester’s hopes of victory.
Alchester entertain Royal Wootton Bassett on Saturday, while Bicester take a break.
