BICESTER Ladies’ promotion hopes suffered a blow when they lost 1-0 at Reading Riots in Division 1 of the Trysports Three Counties League on Saturday.
The visitors dropped to third place, as they were unable to break down their well-organised opponents in tricky conditions.
The Bicestethe gameplay after a slow start.
Reading compressed play, but the visitors’ quick counter-attacks looked dangerous, with Beth Forrest and Alison Haik both going close.
Riots broke the deadlock following a short corner midway through the second half, reacting quickly after an initial save from debutant Jenny Cornish, to fire the ball home.
Bicester did not give in and non-stop running from Beatrice Gunn, Maddie Smith and Kerri Lancaster always gave them hope of an equaliser, but they were unable to find the net again.
This Saturday, Bicester face Windsor knowing they need to win to keep their promotion hopes alive.
Bicester 3rd cruised to a 5-0 victory away to Newbury & Thatcham 4th, thanks to goals from Tomoka Moore (2), Emma Ponfield (2) and Julie Giles, while goalkeeper Kayleigh Buddin made some fine saves.
