AFTER further star performances by Lottie Wynne-Jones and Tom Thornley, Bicester Blue Fins finished fourth in the Oxfordshire & North Bucks County Championships standings.

It is a notable achievement given the size of Bicester compared to the top three clubs – City of Oxford, City of Milton Keynes and Aylesbury.

Wynne-Jones once again showed her talent with six gold medals over the weekend, taking her overall total from the Championships to 13.

The 13-year-old also claimed county titles in the 100m and 200m butterfly, for which she is the top-ranked performer in the UK at her age group.

Her other medals came in the 100m individual medley, 100m backstroke, 200m freestyle, where she was third in the junior championship, and the 50m freestyle.

In the open category, 16-year-old Tom Thornley won the overall County Championship titles for all three backstroke distances.

He took gold in 50m and 200m, having already won the 100m title.

Bicester clubmate Kieran Bird, also 16, achieved a club record for the 100m breaststroke, where he also took a silver medal.

The men’s Open 4x50m freestyle team of Thornley, Joshua Rowland, Bird and Ryan Steward came second in the Championships.

In the boys’ age 11 category, Harry Wynne-Jones took the 200m backstroke gold medal and also picked up new club age group records with his silver medals in 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke.

Georgia Usher demonstrated her improvement to take silver in both the age 11 50m and 200m breaststroke.

In the boys’ under 15 category, Oliver Inness collected gold for 200m backstroke with a time of 2.13.66, while William Whitley won the 100m breaststroke and was third in the Junior Championship.

Bicester’s head coach Craig Oliver said: “We’re pleased with the medalwinning performances and club and age group records that were broken, “I was particularly pleased to see some of the younger talent coming through.”

Final standings: 1 City of Oxford 1,547.50pts, 2 City of Milton Keynes 812.50, 3 Maxwell Aylesbury 593, 4 Bicester Blue Fins 452.
