ARDLEY United scored three late goals to beat Woodstock Town 5-1 and remain seven points clear at the top of Division 1 West.

Henry Landers and Drew Boyd fired the north Oxfordshire side into a 2-0 lead at half-time in the Uhlsport Hellenic League encounter.

Woodstock cut the deficit from the penalty spot, but goals from Billy Gillett (2) and Troy Bryan in the last five minutes made sure of victory.

Craig Adey’s side are in pole position to win the title and have a game in hand over North Leigh United.

But the manager felt his side were made to work hard for their victory.

Adey said: “The boys had to dig in to get the three points.

“Although we probably should have killed the game off before half-time, when you don’t and they get a penalty they are back in it.

“We had to bring on Troy Bryan to seal the win and we would have preferred to rest him, but credit to Woodstock for this.”

Seventeen-year-old Landers gave Ardley a deserved lead after 20 minutes, before Boyd made it 2-0.

But Woodstock rallied and scored from the spot on 66 minutes.

However, Ardley killed the game off when Gillett picked himself up to score a penalty, before he added a second and Bryan completed the scoring.

They are next face Letcombe at home on Saturday.

Bicester Town lost their top-of-the-table clash at Penn & Tylers Green 1-0, with Casey Bocarro scoring the only goal.

The defeat cuts the Foxhunters’ lead at the top of Division 1 East to three points, while their title rivals have two games in hand.

But they will have to wait until March 3 for their next league game, when they travel to Thame Rangers.

Meanwhile, in the Witney & District FA Premier Division, second-placed Kirtlington lost 5-2 at Chipping Norton.

Dan Bott hit a hat-trick and Josh Hunt scored a brace for Chippy.

Shane Probitts and Nathan Kelly netted for Kirtlington.

Todd Parker-Hunt and Russell Fujak fired Bletchingdon into the second round of the Watts Junior Cup with a 2-0 win at Eynsham SSC.
