ARDLEY United climbed temporarily into the top five of the Uhlsport Hellenic Premier Division on Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Tuffley Rovers, writes Dale James.
A game of few chances was settled by a solitary Jack Ross strike four minutes into the second period.
In a goalless first half, Ardley’s Matt Cruse warmed the hands of Tuffley keeper Dave Evans with a fierce drive.
The only goal came four minutes after the break when Leam Howards crossed from the left and Ross fired back across the keeper and inside the bottom corner.
Ardley came under pressure late on, but keeper Nick Bennion and his fellow defenders held firm.
Unusually no cards were shown in the game.
Ardley dropped to sixth after Thatcham Town’s midweek
victory.
