Ben West, who won the overall under 15 title in the Oxford Mail Cross Country League, was chosen as Bicester AC’s junior male athlete of the year at their annual awards night.

Although running against competitors two years older than himself, West was consistently placed second, before winning the final race. He finished 68th in the Inter-Counties Championship.

Like West, Amy Gould found herself competing against older athletes, but competed consistently and came third in the league’s under 15 age category. She won the best junior female award.

Max Nicolle won the club’s ‘overall contribution’ award. He was never out of the first three in the under 13 age group and finished third overall.

The most improved athlete award went to Samuel Worfolk, who from being a tail-end runner to a top-ten finisher.

The boy member of the year was Timothy Jones, while Molly Acton won the girl’s equivalent.

l Jamie Bagnall led the way for Alchester at Sunday’s Banbury 15.

Bagnall completed the route in 1hr 36mins 20secs to cross in 15th, just ahead of clubmate Ian Hunter in 19th.
