OXFORDSHIRE players achieved their best results in the Oxford Easter Seniors Tournament’s four-year history.
The LTA Grade 4 indoor event at Virgin Active Oxford featured competitors from as far afield as Devon and Scotland.
Oxford’s John Loosemore saved three match points to beat Berkshire No 1 Charles Durham 6-4, 6-7, 13-11 in the men’s 45 and over singles final.
Sarah Widdowson (Oxford) won the equivalent women’s event, beating Dawn Broomfield, from Wiltshire, 6-2, 6-2.
Jeremy Wood (Wantage) was pipped in the men’s 50 and over final, losing 11-9 in the third set to Berkshire’s Terry Mayers.
Oxford’s Paul Butcher and Laura Bullmore won the 45s mixed doubles title with a 100 per cent record.
Andy Barr and Andrew Parsons (both Oxford) beat top seeds Murray Chapman and Bob Pimble (Wiltshire) to win the men’s 55s doubles crown.
Father and son Gordon and Edward Tanner, from Warborough, bagged the ‘Kids and Vets’ event.
