Bicester Advertiser: FOOTBALL: Wantage deserve title, says assistant boss Lyne FOOTBALL: Wantage deserve title, says assistant boss Lyne

Wantage Town’s assistant boss Andy Lyne has praised the attitude of the players as they look to boost their Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division title chances at Ascot United tomorrow.

Success in Berkshire and a win against Abingdon Town on Monday would see the Alfredians crowned champions, whatever leaders Ardley United do at Bracknell Town on Monday in their final game.

And Lyne believes his side deserve to win the crown.

“This is one of the best groups I’ve worked with in my 33 years in management,” he said. “They are strong mentally and physically.

“If there is any justice in the world they will get their just rewards come end of play Monday.”

Meanwhile, Ardley chairman Norman Stacey has saluted the work of their boss Kevin Brock as they start one of the biggest weeks in the club’s 69-year history.

Tomorrow, they face Highworth Town in the semi-finals of the Bluefin Sports Cup and after the Bracknell trip take on Kidlington in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup final on Thursday.

“We’re still in with a shout in three competitions, but we could end up with egg on our faces,” said Stacey.

“But whatever happens it’s been an enjoyable season.

“We’ve only got a small squad of 18 players, so to still be fighting on three fronts is a real feather in the cap for Kevin (Brock).”

AFC Hinksey welcome back Toby Webster and Tyrone Brackett as they host Chalfont Wasps in Division 1 East tonight.

AFC Hinksey: from Beames, Clark, Haines, Webster, Warne, C McMahon, Lawrence, Merola, Brackett, McCalmon, J McMahon, Tabor, Thomas, Constant, Davis, Curtin, Dunmall, Joseph.
