Ardley United maintained their one-point lead at the top of the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division with a 2-0 home win against Thame United on Easter Monday.

Kevin Brock’s side who have played a game more than second-placed Wantage Town now need to win their final game at Bracknell Town on Monday and hope their Oxfor-dshire rivals slip up in their final two games to win the championship.

The hosts absorbed strong Thame pressure before going ahead midway through the first half.

Jon Gardner chased a through ball before dinking it over the advancing Thame keeper Lee Farrow and into the back of the net.

Ardley sealed victory in the second half.

Substitute Joe Eyre broke down the left wing and his cross was met by Troy Bryan who found the net with a spectacular overhead kick.

On Saturday, Ardley rega-ined top spot with a 5-1 victory away to basement boys Abingdon Town on Saturday. The home side took a sixth-minute lead through Leon Howard effort which deflected over keeper Jack Harding Ardley suffered another blow when top-scorer Ryan Brooks was forced off with a groin injury.

But they soon equalised when Gardner crossed to Stuart Bridges and his pass set up Joe Eyre to volley home.

Eight minutes later, Gardner set up Ollie Stanbridge, who rifled Ardley in front.

Bryan was denied by a great save from Abingdon keeper Jake Butler to leave the score 2-1 at the break.

Early in the second half, Gardner paved the way for Bryan to make it 3-1 With Howard in particular proving a handful, the Ardley defence could not relax.

But further goals from Ben Thomas, who turned in Eyre’s cross off the near post, and Bryan with his second, ensured maximum points.
