OXFORD United’s woes on the pitch continued last night as they were knocked out of the Oxfordshire Senior Cup at Kidlington.

The Hellenic Premier Division side won the semi-final 4-3 on a penalty shoot-out after a goalless 120 minutes at Yarnton Road.

Kidlington skipper Lewis Brownhill kept his nerve to convert the winning spot- kick, after Danny Rose and Tyrone Marsh had failed from 12 yards.

United had named a relatively strong side, with seven of their starting line-up having played for the first-team this season.

They had several good chances in a bright opening, but were unable to make the most of them.

Having weathered the storm, Kidlington came into the game.

Brownhill twice went close, forcing Max Crocombe into a smart save with one shot and firing another just wide, in a feisty second half where the hosts collected a flurry of bookings.

Marsh had an 89th-minute header cleared off the line, but Kidlington held on and played out an uneventful extra half-hour, before booking their place in the final on penalties.
