FORMER Marlow striker Marcus Mealing capped an impressive home debut for Thame United by scoring in the 2-2 Premier Division draw against Reading Town at the ASM Stadium on Saturday.
Mealing struck from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute to make it 2-1 after substitute Louis Cordice was scythed down from behind.
However, Reading equal-ised in the 65th minute when James Knight’s powerful 20-yard shot gave Thame keeper Lee Farrow no chance.
The visitors had opened the scoring two minutes before half-time.
A Thame clearance was deflected across the six-yard box, falling to visiting striker Taylor Mitchinson, whose shot ricocheted off a defender to beat Farrow.
United equalised in bizarre fashion two minutes later when Shannon Jesson’s inswinging corner was caught by the keeper, but the linesman signalled that the ball had crossed the line.
Two late goals sent Clanfield spinning to a 2-1 defeat at home to Tuffley Rovers in Division 1 West.
Jack Allan gave Clanfield the lead in the 75th minute, but Tuffley equalised through a Shayne Bradley penalty in the 84th minute, and Junior Mbika grabbed the winner a minute from time.
Ben Milner’s third-minute strike set Easington Sports on the way to a 2-0 win at Purton in Division 1 West.
Niall Higgins clinched victory in the 71st minute.
Bottom club Letcombe were sunk by a hat-trick from Rich Kear as Lydney Town coasted to a 4-1 away win.
Kear opened the scoring with a penalty after ten minutes, and three minutes later poor defending allowed him to double Lydney’s lead.
Letcombe pulled a goal back in the 38th minute when James Glover scored from the penalty spot after Alex Thomas was tripped in the box.
But Lydney restored their two-goal cushion on the stroke of half-time when Letcombe keeper Danny Joyce allowed Josh Nelmes’s header to slip through his fingers, and Kear completed his hat-trick in the 53rd minute.
