Ardley United stayed five points clear at the top of the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division with a 4-1 home win against Oxford City Nomads on Saturday.

The hosts went ahead in the 19th minute, when Ryan Brooks fired in Harry Brock’s cross.

Brock doubled Ardley’s advantage on the hour when his shot bounced out of Juan Martin’s grasp and into the net.

A minute later, it was 3-0 when Nomads defender Paul Alder’s wind-assisted miskicked clearance flew over Martin for an own goal.

Louis Joyce pulled one back for Nomads following a goalmouth scramble in the 83rd minute, but Ardley held firm.

Substitute Steve Howkins sealed Ardley’s victory deep into time added-on.

Ardley’s Oxfordshire Senior Cup third-round trip to Nomads on Tuesday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. It will now be played on Wednesday, January 8.

On Saturday, Ardley travel to Highworth Town.
