Twyford all-rounder Bilal Afzal outshone Thame Town in both departments during their Cherwell League Division 1 clash on Saturday.

He hit 64 in the home side's 194-9, with Tanveer Nadeem making 30, while John Maynard took 4-39 and George Patey 3-44.

Afzal then took 7-41 and Naeem Khan 3-24 as Thame tumbled to 133 all out with nine balls of their innings left.

Twyford 25, Thame Town 6 James Coleman claimed 4-26 and Harry Walters picked up 4-58 as Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts recovered from 94-6 to reach 193-9 from their 53 overs at Cropredy in Division 2.

Chris Day (61) was the mainstay of their innings.

Ed Somerton then hit 60 as the home side had a go after tea, but Tauqeer Ahmed’s 3-28 and some tight bowling all round left them hanging on at 169-9.

Cropredy 8, Ox & Bletch N 18 Bicester & North Oxf-ord’s troubles in Division 3 continued as they lost by two wickets at home to Oxford Downs 2nd.

Chasing the home side’s meagre effort of 127 all out, Downs were deep in trouble before Nick Rivett and Tim Hook closed out the win.

Bicester skipper Nick Moorman had led from the front, hitting 54 while those around him crumbled.

After a slow but steady start in the face of some tight seam bowling, Bicester went from 40-1 to 82-6, with Steve Roberts taking 6-35 for the visitors.

Shahin Ali (5-31) then gave the hosts hope with an excellent opening spell that yielded five of the first six wickets to fall. Only Paddy Daniel (32) lasted for long.

Bicester were favourites when Daniel Clark picked up two quick wickets to leave Downs 39 runs short of victory, but Rivett (19no) and Hook (14no) saw them home.

Bicester will need to improve if they are to avoid the drop back to Division 4.

Bicester & North Oxford 9pts, Ox Downs 2nd 25 Rain reduced Twyford 2nd’s Division 5 clash against Kimble to 75 overs, Sam Agace hitting 45 in Kimble’s 181-9 from 40.
