YOUNGSTERS put their spelling skills to the test at a competition at Rye St Antony school.
Eleven schools from across the county came together to take part in the spelling bee, encouraging pupils to love linguistics.
Pupils, who were paired up, were allowed three mistakes over 10 rounds before they were knocked out of the competition.
Those who survived then went into tie-breaker rounds before the overall winner, Oxford High School for Girls, was chosen.

Chandlings School in Bagley Wood, near Kennington, sent 10-year-old pupils William Guthrie and Peter Crossley to represent the independent school.
William, from the village of Kirtlington, said: “We came third, which we’re very pleased with. We found the words sacrament and questionnaire hard, that’s where we made mistakes.”
Peter, from Grandpont in Oxford, added: “I won’t make mistakes on those words again.
“I was nervous in the first few rounds, but then it got more and more fun.
“It felt really good when we were on round five with no mistakes.”
