A young Oxfordshire piano prodigy has been tipped for future international stardom.

And while eight-year-old Michael Ng dreams of performing in front of the Queen and wowing audiences at the Royal Albert Hall, he will play tomorrow in the more humble environs of Oxfordshire County Council's resource centre in Launton Road, Bicester - for the third time.

The piano whizzkid, of Langford Village, Bicester, has started to earn himself something of a reputation throughout the county and beyond, with rave reviews.

Tomorrow, he will be treating his audience to a mixture of classical music from both Britain and China.

After watching a recent show, Bicester Resource Centre manager Catherine Blaxhall, said: "It may not be an Olympic sport, but Michael's performance was up there with anything witnessed in Beijing over the last fortnight. It's wonderful for our clients, most of whom are considerably older than Michael, to have access to such a performance."

Michael, who attends Magdalen College School in Oxford, plays pieces by Beethoven, Mozart and Bach.

He said: "I enjoyed performing at the centre, especially as they gave me two boxes of chocolates - and I love chocolate."

Michael's proud mother Cheri said: "He takes it all in his stride. He doesn't appear to get nervous."

Michael, who performed a duet with his six-year-old sister Christy, one day hopes to perform for the Queen.

He began playing the piano about three years ago after watching his 22-year-old cousin Sandra Ng. She then started giving Michael lessons.

After it became clear Michael was a natural, parents Cheri and Vincent asked a family friend, who teaches music, to give Michael some lessons.

He has since achieved grade five and passed his piano theory test, as well as winning a trophy for his talent in a competition held at Oxford's Jacqueline Du Pré Music Building two years ago.

The pianist also enjoys swimming, maths and watching sport on the television.

He is already dreaming of the day he can take to the stage at the Royal Albert Hall and Mrs Blaxhall is convinced that one day he will become a professional pianist.

She added: "Michael's playing is simply mesmerising and I am sure he will go on to play professionally in years to come."
