Firefighters rushed to the M40 to deal with a car alight on the hard shoulder yesterday afternoon (April 29).

Crews from Bicester were called to the M40 junction nine southbound entry slip where they closed the road to deal with the car fire

The driver of the car pulled over to the hard shoulder and people inside the car were safely out of the vehicle on the fire crew's arrival.

An Oxfordshire fire and rescue spokesperson said: "Earlier this afternoon crews from Bicester Fire Station Kidlington Fire Station Rewley Road Fire Station responded to this car alight on the M40 junction nine southbound entry slip.

"Due to the position of the vehicle we closed the road for a short time, whilst using breathing apparatus and a hosereel to extinguish the fire.

"The occupants of the vehicle did the right thing by pulling onto the hard shoulder and getting themselves safely out of the vehicle, thankfully there were no injuries."

There has now been a further car fire on the M40 this morning (April 30) on the hard shoulder northbound of the M40 just before junction eight.

The AA has stated one lane is closed and there is queueing traffic due to the car fire between J7 A329 (Thame) and J8 (Oxford / Wheatley).

Travel time is estimated as being around 10 minutes.

And traffic is queueing between Milton Common and Tetsworth.
