ARDLEY United’s strong start under Paul Davis continued with a 4-2 win at home to Hook Norton in the Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup secondround tie on Tuesday night.

Hooky enjoyed a superb run to second round qualifying in the FA Cup, but had no answer to Ardley, who made it four wins in five games since Davis took charge.

The home side bagged three goals in seven minutes late in the first half to take control of the game.

Carl Tappin opened the scoring on 35 minutes, making the most of lax marking to side-foot Josh Bowden’s cross into the net.

Troy Bryan doubled the advantage by heading a corner in at the back post, before Ryan Markham made it 3-0 with a 25-yard free-kick.

Frankie Baigent struck three minutes into the second half, which was the cue for Davis to make changes and have a look at fringe players.

Although the visitors hit back to score twice either side of the hour mark, Ardley never looked troubled as they booked their place in the third round.

After a break from Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division action last weekend, their campaign resumes on Saturday when Highworth Town visit the Playing Fields.

Davis said: “I’m happy, although in both cup games we’ve conceded goals to sides from the division below us.

“I would love another three points on Saturday, we’ve got a tough run of games coming up against top-eight teams.”
