Science Oxford is set to present some explosive fun at the Oxford Playhouse for one evening only.

Family science show Wonderstuff will fizz, pop and explode on to the stage at 5pm on Friday, April 24, as part of the Playhouse’s Friday’s programme of special events.

Lead by scientist and broadcaster Mark Miodownik, with guests including presenter and leading chemistry professor Andrea Sella, together they explore the scientific wonders of the everyday stuff we take for granted.

From cardboard to plastic, concrete to the new age of graphene, aerogels and even chocolate, Mark and Andrea will look at what these items are actually made of.

The show is a family celebration of the 30th anniversary of The Oxford Trust, the science and innovation charitable trust behind Science Oxford.

Mark Miodownik has written extensively on science and engineering.

He has a column in The Observer, and his topics have included chocolate, glass, rubber and the future of fabrics and buildings.

His book Stuff Matters was a critically acclaimed New York Times best-seller. And his latest BBC TV series Everyday Miracles proved a hit with viewers young and old alike. Wonderstuff is the perfect way to explore the magic of the modern materials that make up our everyday lives. The show is recommended for age eight upwards.

Other events taking place to mark the trust’s anniversary include a whistle-stop tour of some of its family show highlights from the past 30 years.

Held at The Old Fire Station, George Street, on Saturday, May 2, at 11am, the show will include demonstrations.

Tickets for Wonderstuff at Oxford Playhouse cost £7 (discounts £5) and are available from the ticket office on 01865 305305 or at oxfordplayhouse.com
