OXFORDSHIRE remains on medium alert for flooding despite a number of warnings being dropped yesterday.
The Environment Agency said there were seven warnings in place across the county including Kennington, Binsey, Osney, Abingdon, Clifton Hampden and Witney.
There are also flood alerts – meaning flooding is likely – in areas closer to Oxford, including Wolvercote, Radley and Jericho.
The agency said levels on the Thames remain very high and are expected to continue rising very slowly today.
The Met Office has forecast rain today and heavier showers later in the week although rainfall totals are not expected to be high.
Most major roads are open, although the worst-hit roads – such as Dry Lane in Crawley and the High Street in Clifton Hampden – remain closed.
People living in South Hinksey, where a 600m-long barrier was put up by troops at the weekend, say it appears to be working.
MP for Oxford West and Abingdon Nicola Blackwood visited the home of resident Adrian Porter, who said: “The soldiers have been brilliant, working 24/7 at the weekend.”
Oxfordshire County Council said: “Water levels remain high and the Thames is rising very slowly in some locations.”
More than 4,800 sandbags have been delivered across the county.
