AGAINST all the odds, an “amazing” young lady has celebrated becoming a teenager.
Victoria Dyer was born brain damaged following complications from her home birth in 2001.
John Radcliffe Hospital medics told her family she wouldn’t survive and they took the agonising decision to switch off her life support.
But Victoria, who has cerebral palsy, proved everyone wrong, and turned 13 on Friday.
Mum Theresa Dyer, 50, said: “It’s pretty amazing. We never thought she would get to one, never mind 13.
“She’s a very happy and placid little girl. We have to think she’s obviously happy with her lot, happy with the quality of her life, otherwise she wouldn’t still be here.”
The family – dad Danny, and brothers Daniel, 23, Ben, 22, and Luke, 16 – celebrated with a party at their Somerville Drive, Bicester, home. And there were more celebrations on Saturday with friends from Bardwell School and music therapy charity Soundabout.
