RESIDENTS in Fifield have unveiled a wall-hanging to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee last year.
The artwork, which took two years to make, was created by 12 principal stitchers, helped by contributions from 65 more villagers.
The wall-hanging, which features scenes of Fifield through the ages, was unveiled at the parish hall earlier this month.
Fifield Parish Meeting chairman Catherine Hitchens said: “All the stitchers are very proud of their achievement. Every single stitch had a purpose and every feature is an aspect of the parish.
"It’s not the sort of thing you come across every day – it was very much a community project and a real labour of love by all those that took part. It will be displayed and admired in the parish hall for years to come.”
West Oxfordshire District Council gave £225 to support the project. Richard Langridge, the council’s cabinet member for communities, said: “It’s wonderful to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with such a unique and exciting project, that has brought the community together.
“I’m sure it will stand as a lasting legacy to all who created it and be a focal point for the village and visitors.”
