A company has won an award for their creation of a digital reuse and recycling scheme currently being used at Wimbledon.

CryptoCycle, a company based at Bicester’s Eco Business Centre in Elmsbrook, won the Technology Excellence Award in the Oxfordshire Business Awards 2022.

The award was presented to the CryptoCycle team by comedian Rory Bremner and Managing Director of CIS Ltd, Neill Lawson-Smith, at the John Henry Brookes Building, Brooked University on June 17.

The company has developed Reward4Waste, a reuse and recycling platform designed to accelerate positive behaviour change through digital technology.

The platform is now widely recognised as a pioneer for a digital deposit return scheme to help improve recycling rates for used drinks containers.

Reward4Waste works by coding products and capturing that they have been returned via a similarly coded return point.

The scheme is currently being used at the Wimbledon Championships in partnership with Evian water.

Tennis fans at the championships are being encouraged to return their used drinks containers to QR coded return points where they will receive rewards for their good recycling behaviour.

CryptoCycle Chairman Tony McGurk said: “Out ream has a passion for sustainability and circularity, where nothing escapes being recycled and used again.

“We have worked so hard over the last few years to spread the word of Reward4Waste and the huge benefits that digital technology can bring to realise these aims.”
