A development company is set to build a large primary school on its site prior to the occupation of its 550th home.

Graven Hill Village Development Company – which is delivering the Graven Hill project in Bicester – have appointed Kier Construction to deliver a two-form entry primary school on the site.

Kier will commence development in August 2022, with the school set to open in September 2023.

The school will take in 420 pupils aged 4-11, and there will be 12 classrooms as well as specialist facilities for art, design and technology.

In addition, the project will deliver more than 13,000 square metres of pitches, play and multi-use games areas.

The early years facility will accommodate a further 90 pupils aged between 2-4 years in three classrooms, with dedicated facilities and play areas.

Karen Curtin, managing director of Graven Hill Village Development Company, said: “This is an exciting part of the Graven Hill development.

“Designed to promote collaboration and flexible learning, the new school will enhance the great sense of community spirit here.

Councillor Calum Miller, Cabinet Member for Finance at Oxfordshire County Council, said: “I’m delighted that work is about to commence on the delivery of Graven Hill primary school for September 2023.

“A school is at the heart of a community and I’m glad parents and children at Graven Hill can now look forward with confidence to their new school.”
