Sir, I wonder if I may add to the comments made by my namesake and fellow villager Mr Peter Lloyd on the subject of the renaming of Bicester Town railway station.

It should be remembered the revival of the line at Oxford, which this station serves, owes much to the efforts of the Oxford to Bicester Rail Action Committee and the Bicester Advertiser.

Until Chiltern Railways took over the operation of train services virtually nothing was done to advertise its existence. I am therefore reluctant to criticise Chiltern’s excellent record and proposals for its future.

I have always felt its efforts to lure Bicester Village customers off the road are worthy of support bearing in mind some of the appalling driving and parking of motorists at Bicester Village.

I wonder if the station could be renamed ‘Bicester Town and Village’ or ‘BTV’ for short. Perhaps Mr Lloyd thinks that this name is rather long, but I am reminded that on Anglesey there is a station called Llanfairpwll-gwyngyll-gogerych-wyrndrobwll-llantysilio-gogogoch.
