A young Oxfordshire cricketer made his debut for Sussex 2nd XI earlier this week.
Arthur Hanson, an opening batter who has also represented Oxfordshire’s first team in both red and white ball formats, played in a four-day championship match against Essex.
Although the match was cut short by rain, Hanson made a promising start with an unbeaten 21 on a seamer-friendly pitch, with Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace in attendance.
Hanson said: "I loved the experience playing with and against professional cricketers.
"I learned plenty and hopefully helped the team into a strong position before the rain arrived. Many thanks to Sussex for allowing me the opportunity."
The debut caps off a standout season for the young cricketer, who has impressed throughout 2025.
During the campaign, he scored 493 runs as an opener, including two 50s and an unbeaten 113 against Middlesex, and took eight wickets.
He also helped Sussex Under-18s to secure second place in their county three-day competition, just behind Middlesex.
Looking ahead to the off-season, Hanson said: "I'm looking forward to working hard over the winter to improve my game further. Now it’s time for school."
Sussex currently sit fifth out of six teams in Group 1 of the Second Eleven Championship, having won just one of their three matches so far.
