OXFORD University have appointed a familiar face as head coach of their women’s programme.

Former Chinnor and Henley Hawks coach Ricky Khan will be in charge of the Dark Blues for their BUCS Championship campaign and the annual Varsity Match.

The Lancastrian boasts more than 20 years experience and was last with RFU Championship side London Scottish.

He said: “I’m very fortunate to have the opportunity to be joining yet another rugby club steeped in history.

"I was really impressed with the vision that (captain) Lauren Webb and (general manager) Tim Stevens had on where they want to take this section of the club.

"I feel it is an exciting project and opportunity for both of us to grow the programme and showcase the talent on offer here at the University.”

Webb added: "Ricky stood out from the beginning of the application process for his wealth of experience and the passion he showed for the role, but it was the dynamic energy he managed to inject into the squad during his pilot training session that convinced me he was the best fit."

"I am confident that Ricky will only take the women’s section from strength to strength."
