NORTH Leigh have completed a transfer coup with the signing of James Dobson from Slough Town.

The winger came through Oxford United’s youth system and has played in the Vanarama National League for Dagenham & Redbridge and Sutton United. He previously had a spell at North Leigh in 2013/14.

The Millers have also signed striker Charlie Samuel, who was on trial in pre-season and scored both goals in last month’s 3-2 friendly defeat at Kidlington.

The duo join on the eve of the Pitching In Southern League campaign, with North Leigh travelling to Dorchester Town tomorrow for the club’s first game in Premier South.

And manager Eddie Odhiambo believes Dobson, 30, will raise the bar at Eynsham Park after dropping down from Vanarama National League South side Slough.

He said: “He’s been playing step-one football and adds real quality.

“He’s the type of player that’s going to give the rest of the squad a lift, because his quality is going to make other players in his position think ‘I’ve got to turn up’.

“He’s used to a level which I want our players to aspire to.

“He’s going to bring experience, know-how, nous, genuine quality – his left foot is one of the best you’ll see in non-league.

“He’ll bring some much-needed goals as well - we’re pretty efficient at keeping goals out, less so at putting them in the other end which is always the hardest thing in football.

“It’s exciting to have a player of his calibre on board and I’ve got to think Slough and the manager Neil (Baker) for helping us get him.”
