JANUARY is usually all about transfers – but the futures of existing Oxford United players have occupied the minds of fans just as much this month.
That should be no surprise, with only 11 members of the U’s first-team squad contracted beyond this summer as things stand.
Nine senior players’ existing deals run out, while loanees Herbie Kane, Gavin Whyte, Nathan Holland and Jordan Thorniley are due to return to their parent clubs.
The issue of contracts has come up several times in the last month, with Karl Robinson suggesting United will offer fresh terms to long-term absentee Alex Gorrin.
Mark Sykes, another player in the final year of his deal, said last week that January is ‘massive’ when it comes to sorting out his future.
Robinson addressed the issue again after Saturday’s defeat at Lincoln City, calling for clarity in talks with those out of contract this summer.
The U’s head coach added: “That’s all I ask, for this to be dealt with sooner rather than later. Let’s not let this drag through the whole of January.”
Here, we look at every United player and when their contract expires.
