KARL Robinson is expected to miss Oxford United’s game against Shrewsbury Town tonight while he waits for the results of a PCR test.

It comes after the U's head coach took a lateral flow test, which came back positive for coronavirus.

If the PCR result is also positive, Robinson would have to self-isolate for ten days.

Assistant manager Craig Short and club captain John Mousinho are standing by to take charge for this evening’s Sky Bet League One clash.

Robinson told United’s official website: “I am obviously hoping for the best, but we will always do the right thing and will not take risks with people’s health.

“At the same time it does show that we are doing things absolutely correctly and that we have very strong systems in place at the club.

“Amy Cranston, our head of medical, is doing an outstanding job and we will continue to follow all the rules, as we have done throughout this pandemic.”

If Robinson’s PCR test comes back negative before this evening he will be on the touchline as usual.

But a ten-day isolation period would see him miss not only tonight’s game, but also Saturday’s trip to Burton Albion and next Tuesday’s Papa John’s Trophy clash with Tottenham Hotspur Under 21s.

It comes just over a week after United players Gavin Whyte and Marcus McGuane returned to training following positive Covid tests.
