THE postponement of Oxford United’s trip to Sunderland is a good thing.

From a first-team perspective, the U’s avoid a side who have won six out of six at the Stadium of Light in Sky Bet League One.

United will hope Sunderland’s home form has lost momentum by the time the rearranged game takes place, even if it is an awkward Tuesday night in November.

Looking at the bigger picture, it benefits two important matches this weekend.

No trip to Sunderland increases the chance of a big crowd for Sunday’s derby between United women and Swindon Town at Court Place Farm.

It is a great chance for an exciting U’s side to show what they can do.

Then comes the Micky Lewis memorial match at the Kassam Stadium, which will be highly emotional.

It should prove a fitting tribute to a true legend of Oxfordshire football, who did so much for the game in this county.

The club are billing it ‘Super Sunday’ – so try to get to at least one of the matches, if you can.
