JOE Thomas starred as Oxfordshire beat Berkshire by three wickets to extend their winning run to six matches.

The spin bowler took 5-22 and claimed a run out as the visitors were restricted to 123 all out in the 50-over friendly at Challow & Childrey CC.

Oxon wobbled as they went from 81 without loss to 120-7, but dragged themselves over the line to win by three wickets.

Two mini collapses cost Berkshire, the first beginning when Max Mannering dismissed Archie Carter for 22 after a 31-run stand with partner Matthew Rowe.

Thomas soon dismissed the other opener and Dan Lincoln to leave the visitors 32-3, before they stabilised and reach 81-4.

But Thomas blitzed the middle order, removing Euan Woods, Rhodri Lewis, Stuart Davison and running out Andy Rishton to leave Berkshire 89-8.

In reply, Harry Smith (21) and Tom Cosford (66) put on 81 for the first wicket, but they were quickly dismissed and Oxon slipped to 93-4.

Jordan Garrett and Jonny Cater moved the hosts past 100, with the former caught and bowled for ten with the hosts 15 short of their target.

Olly Clarke and George Tait were dismissed, but captain Cater’s knock of 17* proved vital as the hosts reached 125-7 in 36-3 overs.
