OXFORD United Women will kick-off a run of five post-season friendlies with a home game against Maidenhead United on Sunday.

The U's 2020/21 campaign ended with their Vitality Women's FA Cup fourth round defeat to Charlton Athletic last Sunday, after the FA Women's Southern Premier Division was curtailed last month.

Match report: U's Women lose 2-1 to Charlton in FA Cup

Four friendlies will take place in May and it is hoped the final two - at AFC Wimbledon and at home to Nottingham Forest - will be played in front of fans, if coronavirus restrictions allow.

Manager Liam Gilbert told the club's official website: “The biggest aim is just to play football, everyone in the team has worked so hard over the lockdown period and over the FA Cup games, so for us to do nothing after that would be unfair to them.

“I’m looking forward to the prospect of facing clubs that we have an existing relationship with, and they should be good games as well.

"Those teams will pose a variety of challenges, different philosophies and styles of play, which will keep things fresh for us to be faced with as a team.

“This weekend against Maidenhead, we’ll be looking forward to facing a team who will be fresh and looking forward to the contest, who will be building towards next season already.

“As for ourselves, I expect our attitude and application to be one hundred percent, which is what we always expect, and it will be a chance for the players who haven’t featured over the last few weeks to get an opportunity and deserve a run out after the good work they’ve put in.”
