WILL Owens and Adam Smith secured a 2-2 draw for Oxford United Under 18s at AFC Wimbledon.

The young U’s travelled to south west London in the same week as the first-team and showed great character to twice level after going behind.

United’s team included Tyler Goodrham, playing his first match since he was offered his first professional contract last Thursday.

The 17-year-old was unable to open the scoring from an early chance, while Smith also went close.

It proved costly as the U’s went behind to a set-piece, although it was not long before they drew level for the first time.

Owens built on some impressive recent performances with a classy strike, cutting in from the left flank before shooting past the goalkeeper.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with the U’s hauling themselves back to parity after going behind for a second time to a quick counter-attack.

Smith’s equaliser also saw him cut in on his right foot and United held out for a well-deserved draw.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Under 18s coach Chris Hackett said: “We probably had enough chances to win it, but all in all it was a good game.

“We looked at a few of the Under 16s and a couple of trialists, so we can be pleased with the performance overall.”
