TODAY marks four weeks since it emerged Oxford United’s Indonesian investors have made an offer for outright control of the club and conversations remain ongoing.
Last week, U’s head coach Karl Robinson could not put a timescale on the ownership situation, while chairman Sumrith ‘Tiger’ Thanakarnjanasuth – who is still thought to hold the largest stake – told us yesterday that ‘nothing has happened yet’.
It is important to remember that changes in the boardroom are rarely resolved quickly, so the lack of concrete news is unsurprising.
'Nothing yet': Oxford United chairman on boardroom changes
But one factor that could be holding up the process is United’s position in the Sky Bet League One table.
The U’s can move into the play-off places this weekend if they beat Gillingham, and Portsmouth or Blackpool lose, albeit both those teams have games in hand.
There is a slim chance United could find themselves in the Sky Bet Championship next season – and that uncertainty does not help with definitive planning.
Tiger has said many times about the board preparing for life in both the second and third tier, so it is certainly not a blank slate.
But we may have to wait until the U’s know what division they are playing in next season before there is more news from upstairs.
