There are plenty of famous faces from Oxfordshire, but did you know these sporting icons are also from the county? 

From olympic athletes to tennis stars, a lot of sporting talent hails from the region. 

Here are some of Oxfordshire's most iconic sporting stars: 

Jason Plato - Racing driver

Born in Oxford, Timothy Jason Plato is a British racing driver currently competing in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) for Power Maxed Racing.

He has twice been BTCC Champion, in 2001 for Vauxhall and 2010 for Silverline Chevrolet.

He has finished in the top 3 in the Championship 12 times and holds the record for the most overall race wins in the BTCC.

He has also presented the motoring television series Fifth Gear since 2004.

Tim Henman - Tennis player

Tim Henman  was born in Aston Tirrold and is a retired professional tennis player.

He was the first male player from the United Kingdom since Roger Taylor in the 1970s to reach the semi-finals of the Wimbledon Men's Singles Championship.

Henman never reached the finals of any Grand Slam but reached six Grand Slam semi-finals and won 15 career ATP titles (11 in singles and four in doubles), including the Paris Masters in 2003.

He also scored 40 wins and 14 losses with the Great Britain Davis Cup team.

Henman was ranked British number 1 in 1996 and again from 1999 to 2005, from which point he was succeeded by Andy Murray. 

He is one of Britain's most successful open era tennis players, winning $11,635,542 prize money. In the 2004 New Year Honours, he was appointed an OBE.

Alice Powell - Racing driver

Another famous racing driver to hail from the county is 27-year-old Alice Powell. 

In 2010, she became the first woman to win a Formula Renault championship and in 2012 became the first woman to score points in the GP3 Series.

In 2014, she returned to racing in Formula Renault and added to her championship victories by taking first place in the International Class of the 2014 Asian Formula Renault Series.

Julie Bradbury - Badminton player

Olympian Julie Bradbury represented Team GB at the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games. 

She was part of the national mixed team that won the gold medal at the 1994 Commonwealth Games, also captured the silver medals in the mixed and women's doubles events.

Along with those sporting achievements she is only the second person to hold all five titles in all three disciplines of badminton (singles, doubles, and mixed) at the English National Championships.

She reached a career high as world number one in the mixed doubles and number four in the women's doubles.

Danielle Watts - swimmer

Bicester Advertiser: Danielle Watts set world record

Danielle Watts is a paralympic swimmer who has represented Great Britain at three Paralympic Games from 2000 to 2008 winning three medals. She is classified as an S1 category swimmer.

At the 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney, Watts competed in the women's 50 and 100 meter freestyle and 50 meter backstroke.

She repeated these events at the 2004 Games in Athens, this time winning silver in the 100 meter freestyle and bronze in both the 50 meter freestyle and 50 meter backstroke.

She swam in two events at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games, finishing seventh in the 50 meter backstroke and 13th in the 50 meter freestyle.
