MILTON Keynes Dons boss Russell Martin sees parallels between his side and Oxford United ahead of their visit to the Kassam Stadium tonight.

The visitors will arrive with added confidence after beating Gillingham 2-0 on Saturday.

Despite performing well this term, it was their first win in Sky Bet League One this season and moved them off the foot of the table.

The U’s replaced them at the bottom, but Martin (pictured) is wary.

He said: “They’re not far away from a result, you can see it’s coming.

“We need to make sure it’s not against us and we need to make sure we build on the result at the weekend.”

He added: “I don’t see them finishing anywhere near where they are at the moment, because of the way they play, the manager and the experience they’ve got.”

“At the minute it’s really difficult to read anything into the league positions.”

Dons were in a relegation scrap when last season was halted but Martin, whose first win in charge came against the U’s last December, is confident they have improved.

He said: “We’re miles better than we were last season, I’m convinced of that.

“We knew (a win) was coming at some point, the performances showed that.

“Hopefully it relaxes people, but not too much because we’ve got another massive game tonight.”
