ALEX Gorrin is straining to get stuck in and help the small margins go Oxford United’s way to turn their form around.

An ankle injury in the Carabao Cup at the start of September has meant the midfielder has been a spectator in the opening weeks of the season.

Gorrin came off the bench to play the final 20 minutes at Peterborough United on Saturday, where a 2-0 defeat saw Karl Robinson’s men slip to the foot of the Sky Bet League One table.

They will look to begin climbing tonight when Milton Keynes Dons visit the Kassam Stadium (7), with Gorrin feeling they are not far away from clicking.

“For sure, football is a game of small margins,” he said.

“You score and go 1-0 up, then the other team has to attack and gets exposed and you score the second, then it’s game over.

“At the moment it just seems they always score first and then we have to become expansive and take the game to them.

“It’s only been five games.

“Last season we had a similar start and then we went on a run.

“In this league there’s so many games, so you just need to concentrate on the next one, get a result and then everything goes back to a good feeling.”

While it has been tough being helpless in the treatment room, getting back into the side now is slightly ahead of schedule.

And Gorrin was quick to thunder into a challenge at London Road.

He said: “I’m not going to change the way I play.

“You know how I play, I don’t mind a challenge.

“It was there to be won and it felt fine. That’s the first test out of the way.

“Obviously, when you’re out you’d want to be there helping your teammates.

“With the injury I couldn’t and it’s been frustrating.

“Thankfully I’m back fit now and I can contribute.”
