CAMERON Brannagan has been discharged from hospital and will spend the next phase of his recovery from an eye problem at home.

The Oxford United midfielder is suffering from a rare infection, which is a reaction to an illness he had last month.

Head coach Karl Robinson stressed on Saturday they were not working on a timescale for how long Brannagan will be sidelined.

That remains the case, with the U’s boss careful not to disclose too much while some elements are still uncertain.

He said: “We can say it’s an infection in one of the eyes, part of a response to an illness he had.

“The eye hospital at the John Radcliffe only sees a maximum of two of these a year.

“Sadly it’s fallen on Cameron toes and we have to wish and pray he has a speedy recovery.

“I’ll refrain from the detail of the situation, because we’re not too sure what it is in terms of the recovery process, but equally for the privacy of the club, the eye hospital and Cameron.

“We feel it’s right it stays internal for the foreseeable future.”

He added: “The big thing is we give him that chance to recover.

“He’s now shielding and has to keep himself at home.

“Hopefully we’ll see a response to the medicine he’s on.”

Robinson did add that messages of support which had come in from U’s fans since Saturday had been a tonic.

He said: “All Oxford fans just need to be patient with this situation.

“I’m sure they’ll send their love and support, every good message he gets is a positive way of his mind turning things around.”
