OXFORD United have delayed the start of their pre-season training to allow those caught up in new quarantine measures to take part.

Alex Gorrin was at home in Tenerife when the UK government brought in new isolation rules for those returning from Spain.

Several other teammates on holiday in the country were also impacted.

They are now in the mandatory 14-day quarantine period, but the tweaks made to the schedule mean they will not be playing catch up.

U’s boss Karl Robinson said: “Alex is back now. As soon as it happened we gave the players a start date where we were looking to get back in the building.

“We knew we had three or four players in Spain and some players live abroad, so we moved our start date to give them that 14-day quarantine.

“It gave them a 24-hour window to get out.

“We had a four-day gap in the middle of our pre-season as off days, so we’ve taken two of them and put them at the beginning.”
