TIEGAN Trafford landed a major triumph to book her place at the British Championships.

The Abingdon GC member was crowned National Compulsory Level 1 winner with a fantastic performance to qualify for April’s event in Liverpool.

The championships are the top competition of the year for British gymnasts, with the 11-year-old’s clubmate Lexie-Mae Neal appearing in the senior event.

A pass mark of 57.00 meant Trafford had little margin for error at the National Sports Centre in Lilleshall, but she produced a flawless display.

The youngster scored a huge 62.80 while winning on beam, finishing second on the floor and claiming third on the bars.

Although there was delight for Trafford, disappointment was the overriding feeling for fellow Abingdon member Olivia Kenny.

The youngster performed beautifully on the bars and beam, but an unfortunate slip on the floor meant she finished with a score of 56.95.

Kenny took sixth on the beam and will aim to reach the pass mark when she tries again later this year.
