OXFORD University Greyhounds produced a storming first half as they beat Bicester 59-21 at Iffley Road to reach the semi-finals of the Oxfordshire Cup.

A strong student side raced into a 28-0 lead after just 25 minutes, although their opponents improved in the second half.

The victory sets up a last-four tie against Chinnor Falcons, which is scheduled to be played on the weekend of February 22-23.

Louis Wright drove over for Greyhounds in the opening seconds as the game began ominously for Bicester.

Rob Quinlan added another try soon after, with both converted by David Wilkinson.

The full back was in the mood and crossed twice more, Wilkinson adding the extras on both occasions.

Tom Horwood reduced the deficit with a try, Dan Walker adding the extras, but Tobi Clarke went over to give the hosts a commanding 33-7 lead at half-time.

It was more of the same after the break as Louis Pincott crossed and Quinlan touched down for a fourth time, Wilkinson converting the latter to make it 45-7.

But Bicester did not give up and were rewarded for their endeavour when Dan Spencer crossed, Walker kicking the two points.

Rory Tegner darted across as Greyhounds reached the 50-point mark, Wilkinson adding his sixth conversion.

The visitors finished strongly and Spencer powered across for his second try, Walker converting again.

There was just enough time for Sam Ridgway to touch down, with Wilkinson adding another conversion.
