OXFORD OBU hit the ground running after the winter break with maximum points from their double header.

Henry Vallis scored a brace in Saturday’s trip to an energetic Woking side.

Sean Cox and Zum Akhter also netted in a 4-2 success.

There were plenty of tired legs 24 hours later, but Akhter, Richie Heywood and Worcester Bowden were on target in a 3-2 home win over fourth-placed Bournemouth.

The twin successes took Oxford up to second in Premier Division 2 West of the South Hockey League, level on points with leaders Surbiton 2nd.

Witney also played twice, but came away empty-handed from their meetings with MBBO Regional 1 high-fliers.

Thom Allison scored in a 3-1 loss at home to Marlow, while Ollie Hartley’s brace was in vain in a 5-2 defeat at leaders Reading 2nd.

Oxford Hawks ladies geared up for the second half of their season starting next month with a triangular tournament in Cheltenham.

They began with a clash against Stourport from the division above.

After falling behind in the first half they hit back with goals from Hannah Fallon and Becca Edwards.

Stourport equalised to make it 2-2 late on, but Hawks went on to beat Cheltenham 3-2.

Sam Jacobs, Gemma Croker and Emily Smith struck in a 15-minute blitz in the third quarter.
