OXFORD City stunned Vanarama National League South leaders Wealdstone with a thrilling 3-2 victory at Court Place Farm.

Finn Tapp headed home a 77th-minute winner after the visitors fought back from 2-0 down in a gripping encounter.

Joe Oastler and Elliot Benyon had earlier put City in charge, before two goals in seven second-half minutes brought Wealdstone level.

On-loan Oxford United goalkeeper Max Harris made his debut in place of the injured Craig King, while ex-U’s midfielder AJ George was brought in for his first start due to Josh Ashby’s suspension.

The hosts showed their intent from the off, with Kevin Berkoe seeing a shot parried in the second minute.

The table-toppers’ first chance came when ex-City man Connor Stevens met a corner, but his effort flew wide.

Jaanai Gordon hit the side netting midway through the half, but the home side had to wait until three minutes before the break to take the lead.

Kyran Lofthouse’s corner was met by Oastler, who gave the goalkeeper no chance.

It got even better for City two minutes after the break when Benyon made space for himself and fired home a powerful effort from the edge of the box.

The forward almost scored his second moments later, but Wealdstone were next to strike through Jacob Mendy on the hour mark.

And the visitors showed why they were top of the league when they hauled themselves level, Dennon Lewis the scorer.

The leaders had the momentum, but Lofthouse almost restored City’s lead with 15 minutes remaining, only to be denied by the post.

But there was no stopping the home side’s winning goal.

Like with Oastler’s earlier effort, Tapp was first to meet a cross and sent a thundering header into the net.

This time there was no Wealdstone comeback as City closed out a memorable victory.
