THERE were gold medals galore when members from the Miss Poppy Gymnastics Club competed in their last national competition of the year.

Teammates Oliver Markham and Kian Downes battled it out for top spot in the Level 5 (13/14 years) boys category.

Markham was crowned champion on the vault and joint winner with Downes on the floor.

Downes also won the high bar and parallel bars, with Markham taking silver. Downes claimed silver in the vault.

In the Level 6 boys’ category, for those aged from 12-16, Charlie Barker produced a sensational display.

He and teammate Emilio Quashie, both 12, were taking on far more experienced competitors.

Barker was crowned all-around champion, taking the gold on the high bar, parallel bars, vault and sharing the gold medal with Quashie on the floor.

Quashie also picked up silver medals in the high bar, parallel bars and vault.

Mekayla Heard produced some show-stopping performances in the Level 6 girls’ event.

She was crowned national champion on the beam and floor, and collected silver in the vault.

In the Level 10 event, for five and six-year-olds, Emily West won gold on the beam, silver on the floor and bronze on the bars.

Mia Dellow, Laila-Rose Milham, Amaya Yusuff, Charlotte Gladwin and Emily Longmate were also in action.
