EDDIE Pepperell finished on a high at the Portugal Masters to claim only his third top-ten finish of the season.

The Abingdon golfer picked up shots at the 17th and 18th during Sunday’s final round to sign for a three-under-par 68.

It moved him to 13-under for the tournament at Vilamoura and claim a share of sixth place, four shots behind winner Steven Brown.

A terrific 66 on Friday had catapulted him into contention for the lead.

But he was unable to keep pace with the front runners on Saturday.

Two birdies and two bogeys saw Pepperell level par for the opening 14 holes, before a birdie at the 15th earned a one-under round of 70.

Progress was also slow on Sunday, with birdies at the fourth and fifth cancelled out by dropped shots at the third and eighth.

But four birdies on the back nine, where the only blemish was a bogey at the 16th, saw the Frilford Heath member climb for his best finish since July.

It should cement his place in the top 50 on the European Tour rankings, earning a place at the season-ending World Tour Championship in Dubai next month.
