BEN Woodburn is a surprise late addition to Oxford United’s travelling squad today.

The loanee has started his rehabilitation from foot surgery with parent club Liverpool since breaking a bone in his foot earlier this month.

But the attacker, who turned 20 this week, contacted Karl Robinson to request joining up with the squad.

And the U’s boss was happy to oblige Woodburn, who it is hoped can make a playing return before the end of December.

Robinson said: “Woody’s reporting to training and will stay with the team.

“He wants to be on the coach and in the dressing room with the lads.

“I’ve read a lot of things about his mentality or attitude, but he’s got one of the best in a young player I’ve seen.

“I’ve never had a loan player who is injured phone me up and ask to travel with the team and be part of the club.

“We all know the reason he’s here is to play in Liverpool’s first team again, but he’s one of the best I’ve had that has bought into (our culture).

“It speaks volumes about his desire.”
