MATTY Taylor is on a mission to keep Oxford United fans buzzing by adding to his rich vein of form when Doncaster Rovers visit this afternoon.

Both sides know victory would catapult them into the Sky Bet League One play-off positions if other results go their way.

A fine run has boosted hopes Karl Robinson’s side can put together a promotion challenge this season and while the players are staying grounded, Taylor is aiming to keep supporters flying high.

He said: “The fans have got a bit excited lately.

“I’ve seen a few things where people were saying we’re going to win the league now. That’s nice, it’s good for them to get excited.

“But it’s our job to not get too excited and, as boring as it sounds, just focus on the next game.

“Nothing’s won in October or November. We’re not shouting from the rooftops, but you’re in the wrong game if you want to finish mid-table.”

The striker added: “Doncaster will be a very good side.

“It will probably be a good benchmark for where we’re at.”

Taylor has been a big part of United’s upsurge in form.

The goal against Portsmouth in midweek was the Bristol City loanee’s fourth in five appearances, which is his best run for almost three years.

He said: “It’s put a smile on my face.

“At City my chances were harder to come by in terms of getting a run in the team. I had a slightly different role there which was deeper.

“But the gaffer here knows my strengths and wants me to play to them.

“It’s paying off at the minute and hopefully I can continue scoring.

“There’s more pressure on me to score goals because I’ve done well elsewhere and have finally come back here.

“I don’t mind that, as long as I get the chances.”

United have no new injury worries, with Jamie Mackie likely to be available after a back spasm earlier this week.

Doncaster are without Matty Blair (groin), Kazaiah Sterling (dead leg) and Alex Baptiste (Achilles), but on-loan Wolves striker Niall Ennis could return on the bench.
