DIDCOT Town boss Jamie Heapy is frustrated at his side’s lack of consistency, but is fully focused on a Buildbase FA Trophy run, starting with tomorrow’s preliminary round tie against Larkhall Athletic.

The Railwaymen’s mixed season continued with a 4-0 defeat at home to Daventry last Saturday followed by a 1-0 win at Thame United in their midweek BetVictor Southern League Cup clash.

Heapy said: “We didn’t deserve anything against Daventry, we let ourselves down very badly, particularly in the second half.

“Our performance dropped well below the standards we have set ourselves, so it was pleasing to bounce back on Tuesday.”

Larkhall are eighth in Division 1 South and Heapy knows his side will be in for a tough encounter.

He said: “We really would like a Trophy run, but we know we will need to be at our best against Larkhall, who are going well.”

Seth Humphries (ankle) and Mark Bell miss out for the hosts, but Liam Talboys and Mark Francis return.

Mark West takes his Thame United side to another Division 1 South side when they travel to Winchester City.

Despite the midweek defeat to Didcot, the boss is happy with where his squad is at.

He said: “We rested a fair few in midweek with one eye on the Trophy, and I’m going there with high hopes.

“Winchester are in a similar position to us in their league, so I don’t think there’s much between us.

“It’s a cup game, so a

one-off, and we will be going there looking to progress.”

Lynton Goss and Noah Alabi are Thame’s only injury absentees.

Wantage Town take a welcome break from their league woes when they travel to Division 1 South side Melksham Town.

Joint manager Matt Biddle said: “It’s been a case of two steps forward and one back in the last couple of games.

“We were missing key players last week, which obviously didn’t help matters in a difficult season.

“We are continuing to look to strengthen and bring in the right players to get us out of this.”

Dan James and Ali Thorpe both miss out with knee injuries, while Joe Hartley is doubtful.

Owen Shaw may keep his place in the side after stepping up from the development side.

BANBURY United will be looking to build on last weekend’s fine win at Needham Market when they travel to fellow high-fliers Stourbridge in the BetVictor Southern League Premier Division Central tomorrow.

The Puritans won 1-0 in East Anglia to go fifth, but face a side who are also in good form and a place higher in the table.

Mike Ford’s men had to battle hard for a 4-3 Southern League Cup win at North Leigh in midweek, needing an injury-time goal to see off their lower-ranked rivals.

Although the Banbury boss rested several players for the clash, he was pleased with the spirit shown by those called upon.

Ford said: “I wish I’d been a neutral for that game, because from a manager’s perspective, from being dominant, we shipped three

goals.

“It was pleasing though because we kept going and got the late winner.”

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s trip, Ford added: “We know they are a decent side who will be right up there this season.

“I think whoever finishes above them will be there or thereabouts.

“We are pretty much on track to where we want to be, but we need to get something out of tomorrow.”

They are still without striker Ricky Johnson, however, who is continuing to struggle with a recurring knee injury.

Kidlington will be looking to pull away from the foot of the table when they host Kempston Rovers in Division 1 Central.

Just one point separates the two teams, but the home side have not won a league match for more than a month after a promising start to the campaign.
